I started writing this entry a few days before the earthquake hit Japan, so two titles listed in this round-up have been pushed out while the country recovers.

SXSW was also days away from starting, and while I fully intended to see Emmylou Harris’ showcase, I didn’t realize it would turn out to be an album release listening party.

Duran Duran, All You Need Is Now, March 22

I could have been listening to 3/4 of this album as far back as December, but I’m not enough of a fan these days to buy an album twice. So I’m holding out to listen to it in its entirety. If All You Need Is Now sounds even a fraction like Mark Ronson’s Record Collection, it should be enough to make up for the disaster that was Red Carpet Massacre.

CAROL is one of CHARA’s most striking album for the simple fact that she rocks out on it. I’m hoping she does the same on this album.

Onitsuka Chihiro, "Aoi Shima", April 6

Onitsuka Chihiro, Ken to Kaede, April 20

Not much build up to this album, which looks like a sign it won’t get much of a promotional push. The turn-around time is relatively quick, compared to her last two albums. I just hope it sounds like DOROTHY.

Emmylou Harris, Hard Bargain, April 26

Explosions in the Sky, Take Care Take Care Take Care, April 26

Emmylou Harris performed Hard Bargain in its entirety during her SXSW showcase. The album consists mostly of original songs, and I think the atmospherics from Red Dirt Girl re-emerge. I can’t say Red Dirt Girl is one of my favorites of hers.

I’m pretty much expecting more of what has come before from Explosions in the Sky, with a hope it leans more toward All of Sudden I Miss Everyone than other albums.

Kate Bush, Director’s Cut

Part of me is disappointed Director’s Cut amounts to a self-cover album. I actually like The Red Shoes a lot, but I never could warm up to The Sensual World. In a way, it would be interesting to see if Bush can improve that material.
