Listen: Nina Hynes – William Tell

Nina Hynes is one of those SXSW accidents — you show up not knowing anything about who’s performing and you leave a fan.

Hynes evokes comparrisons to Björk and Harriet Wheeler of the Sundays, and the mix of rock and electronics in her music certainly calls to mind Post-era Guðmundsdóttir.

She released her debut EP, Creation, in 1999, followed by a full-length album, Staros, in 2002. So no, she’s not prolific.

I visit her website every once in a while to see whether there’s any album news. Since she’s based in Ireland, she doesn’t get to the States very often. I don’t think she’s been back to Texas since SXSW ’99.

Creation is still a favorite, and at some point when a new album is ready to be unleashed, I’ll just have to content myself with what I already have.
